The rep has been going well. I feel as though it was an excellent introduction to rotating repertory theatre. It was by no means one of those impossible schedules where the crew essentially becomes nocturnal for two months, but at the same time it was truly a rep season. There are pros and cons to the schedule, and I honestly think that a large part of the problems they end up encountering here could be solved with having a production manager on staff.
Once again stuff I learned in SM class that I thought was pretty useless has ended up coming in handy. This text book in particular has ended up teaching me a lot more after the class has been over for 6 months. Just for the hierarchies and the money side of it all it's worth having around. I'd love to ignore the money and red tape side of theatre and focus on art and only art, but that's just not practical and what good is a stage manager without some practicality?
ARTSEARCH has a new fantastic search page in beta right now. It really helps narrow down job postings that are relevant to you. It also has a new set up where you can save a search and if anything new is posted that matches the criteria you recieve an email. The full version launches in September and I plan on using the heck out of it to find employment for post-graduation.
At the end of the week I'm headed back to Richmond to my new apartment (YAY!!!!!) and rehearsals for Boys' Life. I'm very excited to start on that show as it has some fantastic people working on it!
Happy things I am looking forward to more than I can say:
- Phill (my wonderfuly amazing boyfriend) is visiting me as soon as his contact is finished at the Santa Fe Opera
- Seeing Laura and watching Clone High and being awesome with her
- Being reunited with my fellow 2010 stage managers and having ourselves a "class meeting" better known as drinking and talking about life for hours on end
- Football season!
- The Pixies, who are my favorite band of all time forever and ever, are playing in DC in November!!! They rarely tour and this is a monmental occasion as far as I am concerned.
- Starting my final year of forseeable academia!
